Week 13 Reflection

  1. I can't believe this is almost over! This was really my first week full time teaching in my new placement, and I have really enjoyed it. I am learning a lot from my host teacher about rewards and behavior management that I think I am really benefitting from. Since she is so organized and structured, it has made my transition very easy (we are all thankful to have her back!). The student that I work with is currently working towards some serious goals. She is slowly working her way back into the general education classroom, as well as earning rewards like field trips and special topics back as well. This week we had a few large rewards that she has earned, and we were all pretty proud of her. Sometimes it is hard to tell how the day is going to turn out, I have learned that quickly! My main concern now is that the student is very successful in this classroom, but will it transfer to another room? I can see her easily getting annoyed with other students, and I don't want those annoyances to turn into outbursts. I guess only time will tell, but for now we are working with her academically and socially to try and help her adjust! It is sad to think that we only have 3 weeks left, I don't want this student to feel like I have left and abandoned her because I think that the slightly older role model has been positive for her. She seems to work better with a younger population, and I would hate for her to feel like I am leaving her behind.

  2. Glad that you'll be here next semester to continue the contact with her. Personal relationships are important with all students, but even more so with those who are struggling.
